Proprietor of Dream Away Lodge will act 40 roles in play that focuses on restaurant characters!
New Stage Performing Arts will present the comedy Fully Committed by Becky Mode starring Daniel Osman and directed by Joan Ackermann at Mixed Company Theatre in Great Barrington, MA from April 24 to May 11th.
The show centers on an out-of-work actor named Sam, who is a reservationist at a trendy restaurant in New York City. The humor comes when Sam has to deal with the hilarious but often insane phone calls from the patrons, restaurant staff and his family, in this one-man show, where the phones never stop ringing.
“Daniel is the perfect person to play this part,” says Nicki Wilson, the Artistic Director of New Stage Performing Arts. “He was an actor before he became the owner of a restaurant so he pretty much knows this part inside and out.”
“Aside from the role being a tour-de-force for an actor, it demands someone who can be versatile,” continues Wilson. “Daniel, who plays 40 parts in this play, showed that he was adept at transforming himself into alter egos when he played a female character in my production of ‘The Maids’.”
Daniel Osman, who runs the popular Dream Away Lodge restaurant, which was featured in Oprah Magazine, says he is looking forward to blending his two passions, “acting and restaurant-ing.”
Joan Ackermann, who will direct the play, is a playwright and the Artistic Director of Mixed Company. “I chose Joan to direct this play,” says Wilson, “because she is an actor’s director and has worked with Danny in many of her own plays. And with the challenge of Danny playing so many characters, I needed to make sure that he trusted and felt comfortable with whomever I chose to direct.”
Rudi Bach will be designing the sound, the sets and acting as Stage Manager throughout the production.
The play runs Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 pm and the matinees are at 3 pm on Sundays. Previews are April 24 and 25 and cost $15. Opening night is April 26 and tickets for the run will be $20. For reservations call the Mixed Company Box Office at 413-528-2320.
